The 13th meeting of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Water Resources of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) was held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday under the chairmanship of Committee Chairman Ramesh Chandra Sen.
Mentioning ‘Water Law’ to be timely and very important for the environment, the committee suggested the ministry to take necessary steps for water conservation by organizing more meetings if necessary, said a press release here.
The meeting also suggested fixing a meeting of the ‘Water Committee’ at the convenient time of the Committee Adviser, after notifying the Member of Parliament of the area where the meeting will be held.
The meeting discussed the progress of the project ‘Preservation of Sangu and Dolu rivers banks in Lohagarh and Satkania upazilas of Chittagong district’.
A report on the progress of the project titled ‘Preservation and re-excavation of river banks in Jamuneshwari, Ghaghat and Karotoa in Mithapukur, Pirgachha and Rangpur Sadar upazilas of Rangpur district’ was presented.
The committee recommended speedy completion of the project, said the release.
The meeting was attended by committee members and State Minister for water resources Zahid Farooq, Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, Md Faridul Haque Khan, Nurunnabi Chowdhury and Salma Chowdhury.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, Director General of the Water Development Board and senior officials of the Ministry and the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat were also present at the meeting.
