JS body forms sub-committees over roads and highways sector

A parliamentary body formed three separate sub-committees to investigate three different issues including finding out irregularities and corruption in realising toll from all bridges across the country including Dhaleswari River.
The parliamentary standing committee on Road Transport and Bridges Ministry came up with the decision on Thursday at its 8th meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, said a press release.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader joined the meeting virtually.
Other members of the committee Enamul Haque, Md. Abu Zahir, Rejwan Ahammad Taufiq, Salim Uddin Tarafdar, Sheikh Salauddin, Sayed Abu Hossain and Rabeya Alim attended the meeting.
Chairman of the committee Md. Ekabbar Hossain presided over the meeting.
The parliamentary watchdog made Enamul Haque, a ruling Awami League MP, the convener of two-member sub-committee to investigate irregularities over toll collection at all bridges in the country.
The committee was asked to submit its report before the main committee within the next three months.
Another sub-committee was formed to investigate the allegations of providing multiple tenders to the same companies.
AL MP Shaikh Salahuddin was made convener of the committee while Salim Uddin Tarafdar is another member of the sub-committee.
The sub-committee was asked to submit its report before the main committee within the next two months.
The third sub-committee headed by Rejwan Ahammad Taufiq, was asked to investigate the alleged irregularities in providing lease and management of different resorts and other establishments situated near the Bangabandhu Bridge area.
Secretaries of Road Transport and Bridges Ministry, Chairman of BRTA and BRTC, Project Director of Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project, Project Director of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel Project, Executive Director of BTCA, Chief Engineer of Roads and Highways Department, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and senior officials of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, among others, were present.
