Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources Ministry on Tuesday recommended for short, medium and long-term programmes on constructing submergible embankments to tackle the flood situation.
The committee members discussed the latest situation of flood in Sunamganj district and emphasized the need for permanent solutions to such problem in future due to climate change, a parliament press release said.
The 27th meeting of the committee was presided by its chairman Ramesh Chandra Sen, while committee members State Minister for Water Resources Mohammad Nazrul Islam, A K M Fazlul Haque, M Faridul Haque Khan, Anupam Shahjahan Joy and Ms Selina Jahan Lita took part.
They also recommended for holding inter-ministerial meetings to take preparation in advance in the cases of sudden flood in the country, the press release added.
