JS body for social awareness to stop child marriage

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry for Women and Children Affairs yesterday suggested increasing social awareness to prevent child marriages in the country.
The suggestion was made at the 21st meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with Committee Chairman Rebeka Momin in the chair, said an official release. Committee members State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze, M Mozammel Hossain, Mosammat Mahbub Ara Gini and Rifat Amin attended the meeting.
The meeting recommended surprise visits by senior officers to upazilas to monitor the activities of women affairs officials. It recommended presenting a report before the committee on the activities of department of women affairs for prevention of child marriage, including holding discussion meetings and rallies, screening films and taking instant actions against early marriage at district and upazila levels.
