JS body for reviewing potential of wind power

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Shipping Ministry on Wednesday recommended reviewing the potential of ‘wind power generation’ to increase the capacity of power supply to the Chittagong Port. The committee came up with the recommendation at its 58th meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam Bir Uttam in the chair, an official release said.
Committee members Md Abdul Hyee, Md Nurul Islam Sujan, Md Habibar Rahman, M Abdul Latif, Ranajit Kumar Roy, Md Anwarul Azim (Anar) and Bodruddoza M Farhad Hossain were, among others, present in the meeting. The meeting discussed the activities and problems of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) in detail.
The meeting was informed that an overall progress has taken place in the activities of the CPA as a total of 10 handling equipment out of 51 have already been procured and a jetty named ‘jetty dolphin oil-3’ was built to unload edible oil at the port.
The parliamentary watchdog was also informed that construction works of Over Flow Container Terminal, Delivery Yard at Bay Terminal and Patenga Container Terminal will be completed by 2019 while the works of Laldia Multipurpose Terminal by 2021, Bay-Terminal Phase-1 by 2023 and Matarbari Port by 2025.
The meeting stressed continuing the development activities of the port during the upcoming general election.
