A meeting of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Labor and Employment recommended the Department of Labor to take a plan for proper utilization of fallow lands.
The recommendation was made at a meeting held at Sangsad Bhaban on Wednesday with Chairman of the committee Md Mujibul Haque in the chair, said a press release.
Committee members – Shahjahan Khan, Shamsun Nahar and M Anwar Hossain attended the meeting. Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, heads of various agencies and concerned officials of the Ministry of Labor and Employment and Parliament Secretariat were present.
The meeting discussed in detail the number of applications submitted for trade union registration under the Department of Labor from January 2019 to December 2020.
The meeting also recommended inviting of the BGMC chairman at the next meeting to pay of all dues of the workers.
The committee suggested the ministry to present a complete list of the present condition of unused land under the Department of Labor at the next meeting.
The number of applications for trade union registration in the garment sector from January 2019 to December 2020 was submitted at the meeting.
A two-member sub-committee comprising committee members Shamsun Nahar and Md Anwar Hossain was formed to submit a report to the standing committee within the next month to investigate whether any workers’ grievances were involved in the tripartite talks held in May 2019.
