The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs on Tuesday suggested opening a press wing at all Bangladesh missions abroad compulsorily.
“The committee asked the ministry to take necessary steps to open press wing at all Bangladesh embassies abroad with the appointment of efficient and skilled manpower by the information ministry of the government,” a parliament secretariat statement said.
The meeting also underscored the need for upholding the image of the country through coordinated efforts of all working with the embassies and recommended attaching services of all appointed officers to the foreign ministry under the supervision of the concerned ambassadors.
The standing committee recommendations came at its ninth meeting presided over by its Chairman Dr Dipu Moni.
Committee members – Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali, State Minister Mohammad Shahriar Alam , Muhammad Faruk Khan, Kazi Nabil , Mohammad Sohrab Uddin and Begum Mahjabeen Khaled, and senior officials of the concerned ministry were present in the meeting.
The meeting also discussed and evaluated the decision of the last meeting. The meeting was told that Bangladesh government opened its missions in 10 countries in 2009-2013 while four others during 2014-16 and nine others are now under process.
