Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Information discussed ways to modernize Bangladesh Television (BTV), producing and broadcasting better programmes.
The committee emphasized on modernizing the national television so that it can prove its efficiency in the completion with the ever-advancing mass medias. It also pressed on highlighting the big achievements of the present government, on media.
The committee made the recommendations in its 16th meeting held on Monday at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban.
Presided over by its chairman AKM Rahmatullah, the meeting was attended by Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Sukumar Ranjan Ghosh, Mrinal Kanti Das and Saimum Sarwar Komol, among others.
The committee sought sincere cooperation from Finance Ministry and Ministry of Public Administration in resolving the problems regarding increasing allocations on different sectors for BTV, resolving its manpower shortage and raising honorarium for artists.
The committee also recommended giving the staffs, who are providing services to BTV for long after getting appointed on temporary basis, priority in regularizing.
Recommendations were also made for quickly upgrading different posts in Bangladesh Betar including the post of its director general, increasing honorarium for the artists and bringing the regular artists under pension facility, in line with commitment made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the diamond jubilee function of the state-run radio.
Information Secretary Martuza Ahmed and other officials of the ministry and other senior officials of parliament secretariat were present at the meeting.
