The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry recommended measures for maintaining the navigability of the River Karnaphuli by removing accumulated polythene on the river bed.
The committee made the recommendation to Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) at its 7th meeting held on Tuesday at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with committee Chairman Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam in the chair said a press release.The committee discussed the report of sustainable skill development of Chattogram Port which was placed by CPA.
The committee also discussed the progress of different ongoing projects at Mongla Port and its current problems.
Committee members Shajahan Khan, Ranjit Kumar Roy, Mahfuzur Rahman, Dr Shamil Uddin Ahmed Shimul, M Aslam Hossen Sawdagar and SM Shahjada, among others, took part in the meeting, added the release. Shipping Secretary Md Abdus Samad and Chattogram and Mongla port officials were also present.
