The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Shipping recommended the concerned agency to expedite the work of the ongoing projects undertaken by the ministry.
The committee made the recommendation at its meeting held on Wednesday at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with committee chairman Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam in the chair, said a press release.
At the beginning of the meeting, deep condolences were extended to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib and other members of his family who were martyred on August 15, 1975.
The committee members stressed on formulating a policy with necessary facilities for modern and uninterrupted operation of Bangladesh land ports. They recommended to the Ministry to formulate a policy in this regard in line with the neighboring countries.
The meeting also discussed in detail the progress of implementation of the projects undertaken by the Department of Shipping and the Bangladesh Land Port Authority. Committee members -Shajahan Khan, M Majharul Haq Prodhan, Mahfuzur Rahman, M Aslam Hossen Sawdagar and SM Shahjada, among others, took part in the meeting, added the release.
Among others, Shipping Secretary, BIWTA Chairman, BIWTC Chairman, and other high officials concerned of the parliament secretariat were also present.
