JS body for exemplary punishment of DU sexual offenders

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Ministry on Sunday urged the government to ensure exemplary punishment of those involved in the Pahela Baishakh sexual assault on the university campus.
It also asked the police to be more active in discharging their duty, said a Parliament Secretariat release.
On April 14, some rowdy youths sexually assaulted several women at Suhrawardy Udyan gate near Dhaka University’s TSC during the celebrations of Bengali New Year.
The parliamentary committee came up with the recommendations at its 8th meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad with its chairman Tipu Munshi in the chair.
The parliamentary watchdog also suggested the government complete the recruitment of 50,000 police constables soon and expedite the process of solving transport crisis of the police by procuring vehicles with foreign loan and donation.
Committee members State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan, Shamsul Haque Tuku, Faridul Haque Khan, Abul Kalam Azad, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmood Swapan, Fakhrul Imam and Kamrun Nahar Chowdhury attended the meeting.
During the meeting, it discussed the latest progress of the government’s decision for formation of Rangpur Metropolitan Police and Gazipur Metropolitan Police.
The parliamentary body recommended the government take necessary steps for expediting the issuance process of machine readable passport (MRP) and completing the process within November 24, 2015.
