JS body for exemplary punishment of Aziza’s killers

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Women and Children Affairs Ministry on Sunday suggested the government to ensure exemplary punishment of the killers of Aziza who was burnt to death for allegedly stealing a mobile phone set in Shibpur upazila in Narsingdi. Aziza Begum, a class-V student, who was allegedly set on fire by her aunt Beauty for ‘stealing a mobile phone set’ at Khainput village in Shibpur upazila on Friday night died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on Saturday.
It recommended the government to take steps for taking at a least a one-hour class on child marriage in colleges every week to create awareness among the students in the country. It also asked the Education Ministry and Technical and Madrasah Education Department to take necessary steps for taking the weekly session on ‘child marriage’ in the colleges across the country. The parliamentary watchdog came up with the suggestion at its 39th meeting, held at Jatiya Sangsad with its chairman Rebecca Momin in the chair. The committee decided to finalise the rules of DNA Act 2014 and Child Marriage Restraint Act 2017.
It asked the government for quick implementation of ‘Joyeeta Tower Construction Project’ in the city’s Dhanmondi area.
