The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Cultural Affairs Ministry stressed quickening a process to introduce ethnicity studies in Dhaka University as it awaits government directives to set up an institute for the purpose.
“The committee asked the concerned authorities to quicken the process as the meeting was told that the university awaits the education ministry guidelines in this regard,” a spokesman of the secretariat told BSS on Tuesday.
A parliamentary secretariat statement, meanwhile, said the meeting reviewed the implementation status of directives of its previous meetings which suggested introduction of the ethnicity studies at the premier universality to encourage “practice, preservation and research on languages of ethnic minority groups”.
The committee, it said, also reviewed progress of Shilaidah’s Rabindra Kutibari renovation works in line with its decisions of its previous three meetings.
The meeting suggested appointment of a’ cultural affairs officer’ in each upazila to oversee the activities of Shilpakola Academy in all Upazila level across the country.
Chairman of the committee Simin Hossain Rimi presided over the meeting, joined by its members Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, Momtaz Begum, Pankaj Debnath, Pinu Khan and Jebunnesa Afroz while concerned officials were present.
