The parliamentary standing committee on Land Ministry suggested the authorities concerned engaging lawmakers in the work of establishing cluster villages at the convenient places where general people would enjoy easy transport facilities.
The committee came up with the suggestion at its 35th meeting held on the twenty seventh ultimo at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its Chairman Md Rezaul Karim Hira in the chair, said a press release.
Committee members Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, Advocate Mir Showkat Ali Badsha, Shamsul Alam Dudu and Gazi MM Amjad Hossain attended the meeting.
Reports on updates of cluster village establishments at different parts of the country were presented in the meeting while the meeting was discussed current state of Balumahal (stocks of sand).
The meeting was told that a total of 765 Balumahals in the eight divisions of the country, of which 395 were leased. The government has earned revenue of around Taka 65.93 crore.
It was also informed that rest of the 370 balumahals could not be leased as cases are yet to be disposed centering the balumahals but those will be leased after the disposal of cases.
The committee suggested the ministry to continue leasing of balumahals to increase the government revenue.
Land Secretary Md Abdul Jalil, concerned officials of the ministry and Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat were present on the occasion.
