The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources recommended for constructing new distribution lines and repairing old ones for smooth supply of electricity in rural areas. The recommendation was made at its 38th meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on the nineteenth instant with chairman of the committee M Tajul Islam presided, according to a press release. Among others, committee members State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, M Atiur Rahman Atiq and Abu Zahir attended the meeting.
The committee recommended for taking steps to implement the action plan of power division and the target of the renewable energy generation for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The meeting had elaborate discussion on the electricity bill, 2017. The committee recommended the ministry for taking necessary measures for sending standing committee members home/abroad for gathering experience and knowledge about coal based or LNG-based power plants.
Senior officials of the ministry and officials concerned of the Jatiya Sangsad secretariat attended the meeting.
