The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Welfare Ministry on Sunday suggested authorities concerned to consider receiving applications round-the-year instead of one-time, and allocate cash for stroke and heart attack patients.
The parliamentary body also recommended providing financial assistance to stroke and heart attack patients along with kidney, lever and cancer patients. Currently, the social welfare ministry allocates Taka 50,000 for each patient, an official release said here.
It also recommended the finance ministry to increase allocation for the social welfare ministry in the upcoming national budget to ensure socioeconomic conditions of the disadvantaged, poor, orphans, elderly people, widows, disabled persons and marginalized people aimed at turning Bangladesh into a welfare state.
The recommendations were made at the second meeting of the committee held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with Committee Chairman Md Mozammel Hossain presiding.
Holding a discussion on rehabilitation of acid survivors and disabled persons, the meeting recommended preparing a database for all widows, acid survivors and disabled persons in the country through Union Information Service Centres (UISCs). Besides, the meeting suggested the Public Service Commission to recruit manpower immediately or appoint manpower on an ad hoc basis to mitigate manpower crisis in the ministry.
Committee members Minister for Social Welfare Syed Mohsin Ali, Monoranjan Sheel Gopal, Md Habibe Millat, Peer Foyezur Rahman, Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, Md Abdul Matin and Begum Lutfa Taher attended the meeting.
