A parliamentary watchdog at a meeting on Wednesday recommended taking proper steps for accelerating the ongoing developmental works on land ports in the country.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry came up with the recommendation from its 21st meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its Chairman Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam in the chair.
The meeting also recommended calling an inter-ministerial meeting under the guidance of shipping minister to solve the existing problems immediately for accomplishing the developmental works within a shortest possible time.
The meeting was informed that the developmental work on 11 land ports out of 22 in the country was going on.
It discussed the present situation of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), Bangladesh Land Port Authority and deep-sea port and also recommended selling of old and losing ships of the BWITC.
