Taz Rahman exchanges views with journos: JP will come to power if fair election held

Newly- elected Sylhet Divisional Coordinator of JP, central Presidium member UK- based highest circulated Bengali newspaper Bangla Times Chairman and Editor in chief, eminent journalist ATU Taz Rahman said, JP does not believe in going to power by killing people and it wants to go to power for the welfare of the countrymen, not for corruption. “JP will come to power if a fair election is held”
He has sought role of media in attaining national progress as Bangladesh is now on the way to development and making its endeavor towards flourishing democratic process. ‘It is our sacred responsibility to nourish and foster this development process through concerted efforts so that a happy and prosperous country is established,’ he said this while talking to press conference at Hotel Metro International in Sylhet city on Sunday.
Mr Taz who is also a social worker urged media men both from print and electronic to come forward in materialising hopes and aspirations of the people. ‘As you know, accuracy, objectivity, patriotism and public accountability are some of the vital elements of ethics in journalism, which should be upheld,’ he said. He said that a good newspaper is the mirror of the society that reflects the overall development and affairs of a nation in its true perspective.
Taz, a well-known journalist and community leader also said, the role of newspapers, however, is of paramount importance in building a prosperous society as well as a nation. Terming Bangladesh as a ‘developing country’, he said the country has been facing various Problems and striving hard to attain the cherished development goals since its independence.
