JP to support govt for democracy: Rowshan

Leader of the opposition in parliament Begum Rowshan Ershed on Saturday reiterated Jatiya party’s unequivocal support to the present government aimed at giving democracy an institutional shape.
“Along with providing support to the government for the sake of democracy, the Jatiya Party, as the opposition in parliament, will highlight the mistakes of the government, if any, through constructive criticisms,” she said.
Taking part in the general discussion on the proposed budget for 2014-15 financial year, she also urged all concerned to dedicate themselves for building a prosperous Bangladesh by shunning the path of the politics of vengeance and destruction. About the proposed budget, she emphasized on adequate budget allocation to the vital agriculture, health, education and human resource development sectors, which are directly involved with the interest of people, for overall welfare of the country. Requesting the government for promulgating a strict law to prevent food adulteration by formaline, she said the government has to take immediate measures in this regard to save the new generation as 45 lakh people across the country fall sick every year by consuming adulterated foods.
The leader of the opposition also told the government to take effective steps to create employment opportunities, prevent school dropout and smuggling for the greater national interest. On the huge backlog of cases in the higher and lower courts across the country, she also emphasized on setting up a High Court bench in each district town and recruit judges for the lower courts for smooth disposal of the cases.
Besides, she said the government has to ensure so that the judiciary could work independently for the sake of establishing rule of law in the country.
Begum Rowshan Erashan pleaded for administrative decentralization to save the capital city from over-burdened population.
She also recommended for taking effective measurers to remove water stagnation, irregularities in waste management and preventing water and air pollution to ensure a neat and clean Dhaka city.
She proposed for privatization of Bangladesh Biman and railway to make them profitable organizations.
Referring to the country’s garment industry, she said the government should give special attention to the country’s major export earning garment industry for the economic progress of the country. In this connection, she said the government has to take initiative to improve working condition in garment industry along with ensuring regular payment of workers.
Apart from this, she said the Bangladesh foreign missions has to play more effective role to solve the problems of Bangladeshi workers abroad. Rowshan Erashad demanded of the government to take stern actions against Hallmark, Destiny and those who are involved in share market scam to increase people’s confidence on the financial institutions.
