Jatiya Party lawmaker Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu on Sunday asked Finance Minister AMA Muhith to go on retirement now, not waiting for December next to relieve the nation, taking responsibility of massive damage in the country’s economic and banking sectors.
“Taking the responsibility, you please go on retirement today not waiting for December and relieve the country and nation. It is our call,” he told parliament taking floor on point of order. The opposition MP came down heavily on the Finance Minister for not taking actions against different share market scams and irregularities in the banking sector, as well as the capital flights following the recent revelation of names of 27 Bangladeshis in Panama Papers and Paradise Papers-1 and 2.
Noting that the Finance Minister has already said he will go on retirement in December next, Bablu said, “Why will you continue blood hemorrhage till December? Please, relieve the people, the nation and the country. What do you need to wait for December? You please go on retirement today and relieve the Prime Minister and all of us.”
The Paradise Papers are a set of 13.4 million confidential electronic documents relating to offshore investments that were leaked, while the Panama Papers are a set of 11.5 million leaked documents that detail financial and attorney-client information for more than 214,488 offshore entities.
Claiming that what the Panama Papers and Paradise Papers revealed are authentic, he said the Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif had to resign following the revelation of Panama Papers.
The opposition lawmaker claimed that thousands crore of Taka is being laundered from the country. The government and the Finance Minister did not take any step against the capital flights though many names of Bangladeshis involved in money laundering came in Panama Papers and Paradise Papers, he added.
Jatiya Party leader wondered why Muhith is scared to take measures against those whose names came in Panama Paper and Paradise Paper-1 and 2.
He said the Finance Minister earlier said the government is responsible for the present situation of the banking sector. “Did he mean the head of the government is responsible? The Head of the government entrusted you with the Finance Ministry. You will have to bear the responsibility.”
Bablu urged the Prime Minister to take actions against those whose names came in the Papers adding that the nation will appreciate her as they (whose names came in Papers) siphoned money of the nation off the country.
