The parliamentary group of HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party on Thursday decided to be part of the government as they got votes being part of the Awami League-led alliance.
The party’s Co-Chairman GM Quader made the announcement on Thursday after a parliamentary meeting of the party at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
“Since we participated in the election under the banner of Awami League, we want to join the government,” he told reporters after the meeting.
Party’s Senior Co-Chairman Raushan Ershad presided over the meeting. The party found no logic to be in the opposition they did electioneering together with the ruling Awami League activist before the 11th national election and pledged to the voters with dream of forming an alliance government.
The party Chairman HM Ershad was not present at the meeting and he did not take oath on the day for his illness.
After what seems to be a withdrawal from a parliamentary opposition status, the door has been left open for BNP and its alliance Jatiya Oikyafront.
It now remains to be seen whether the seven Oikyafront elects, who have refused to take oath as lawmakers, will be joining the parliament after this move.
