Jashore Correspondent :
Three members of a family were killed and two others injured in a pathetic road accident in Jashore early Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Tanima Yesmin Piasha, 25, her sister Tanzila Yeasmin Yeasha, 28, and their sister-in-law Afroza Tabassum Tithi, 32, reports our Jashore correspondent.
Md Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, said a private car carrying five passengers hit an electric pole near the town’s Shaheed Mashiur Rahman street around 1:45am, leaving all the passengers injured.
They were taken to Jashore General Hospital where doctors declared Tanima, Tanzila and Tithi dead while Tithi’s daughter Manizur, 4, Piasha’s husband Shafiqul Islam Jyoti and his friends Hridoy, 28, and Shahin Hasan, 23, were injured in the accident.
The crash victims went out for a ride in the city after seeing the illumination, which bedecked Jyoti’s house marking his marriage to Piasha. But the car veered out of control before hitting an electric pole and the boundary of a house near the Biman office intersection in the city, killing three people on the spot, said Kotwali Police Inspector Tasnim Ahmed.
Informed of the incident, police rushed to the scene and rescued the survivors, who were admitted to Jashore Sadar Hospital. The three bodies have been sent to the hospital’s morgue for post-mortem.
“Jyoti was driving recklessly while intoxicated and has been detained after the incident,” said Inspector Tasnim.
Victim’s family members said Tonima and Jyoti, who were going to have their wedding ceremony on January 23, went on a drive around Jashore town with others in Jyoti’s car.
The accident occurred when they were on their way home and the car hit an electric pole and a building’s wall, leaving the trio dead on the spot.
