Prime Minister’s Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury on Saturday urged the journalists to work with responsibility in order to strengthen democracy through defeating conspiracy.
The information advisor said those who did not want the independence of the country are now hatching conspiracies by assisting militancy to backward the country. “But Bangladesh will go forward foiling all conspiracies of the vested quarter and none can stop its progress”, he commented.
“We who are in journalism profession have more responsibilities in this regard and we should work to uphold our dignity by writing against militancy from the country”, Iqbal Sobhan said this as chief guest while addressing a discussion meeting on ‘Dignity of Journalism, Labour Movement and Advancement of Democracy’ held at Chittagong Press Club (CPC) auditorium this afternoon. Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) organized the function.
He said journalists are always a neutral professional group but we cannot remain neutral and impartial in terms of the existence and basic principles of the state, sovereignty, sprit and ideals of the liberation war, secularism, democracy, and development.
He said there may be difference in opinions but whenever there is a national issue, the journalists should work together to uphold democracy. He said the journalists of Chittagong in association with all professional groups have played a pivotal role in all democratic movements of the country, which could be imitable for the journalists of other regions. Outlining the importance of media for strong democracy, Iqbal said the present government does not interfere on mass media and the media in country are functioning independently.
CUJ President Riaj Haider Chowdhury, presided over the function while Vice Chancellor of Premier University Dr Anupom Sen, vice president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) journalists Shahidul Alam, Chittagong Press Club (CPC) President Kalim Sarwar, former CPC President Abu Sufian, senior journalists and Bureau Chief of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Samir Kanti Barua, senior journalist Anjon Sen, Prof. Sekandor Chowdhury, and businessman Niaz Morshed Elite among others spoke.
