Noted journalist and Press Adviser to the Prime Minister Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury on Tuesday urged the city residents to cast vote in favour of the pro-liberation forces in the upcoming city corporation polls.
The adviser called for discarding the anti-liberation forces, who carried out vandalism, arson attacks and burnt alive 170 people in the last three months in the name of movement.
The PM’s adviser said this while exchanging views with the journalists of both print and electronic media at the Chittagong Press Club (CPC) .
He advised the journalists to work with responsibility in favour of pro-liberation forces in order to strengthen democracy in the country.
Iqbal, also chairman of the board of directors of state-run bilingual news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), said “everybody expects objective journalism and we also want the same”. He said the national broadcasting policy would soon be declared keeping in view the rights and due share of the journalists community as per Newspaper Service Employees Act-1974.
The adviser assured that the government would take all necessary steps for the journalists to discharge their duties during polls in a free and independent manner.
Speaking at the function President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist (BFUJ) Monjurul Ashan Bulbul said journalists always belong to neutral professional group but they cannot remain neutral when the question of sovereignty and independence arises and anti liberation forces occupy streets, killing innocent people in the name of movement.
He said the journalists of Chittagong in association with all professional groups will play vital role in favour of pro-liberation candidate as they have played a pivotal role in all democratic movements of the country.
Chittagong Press Club (CPC) President Kolim Sarwar, Chittagong Union Of journalists (CUJ) president Izaz Yusufee, former CPC presidents Ataul Hakim, Abu Sufian, Ali Abbas, CPC general Secretary Mohosin Chowdhury, and general secretary (GS) Hasan Ferdous, journalists M Nasirul Hoque and Mostak Ahmed, among others, spoke on the occasion.
