Chairman of Bangladesh Press Council (BPC) Justice Mohammad Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed said journalists should strictly follow the ethics of journalism to ensure objective journalism as watchdogs of the society.
“Reporters are the news makers and there is no alternative to objective journalism,” he said this on Monday while addressing a training workshop held at Rangpur Circuit House auditorium as the chief guest.
BPC organised the training workshop on ‘Principles of professional ethics in journalism, objective journalism and laws related to press’ participated by 33 local journalists from the print and electronic media.
Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Muhammad Wahiduzzaman presided over the workshop moderated by Secretary to the BPC Shyamol Chandra Karmaker.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ruhul Amin Mian and Senior District Information Officer Humayun Kobir attended the event as special guests.
Member of BPC Dr Utpal Kumar Sarker and it’s Secretary Shyamol Chandra Karmaker delivered presentations on ‘Principles of professional ethics in journalism and production of objective news reports’ and ‘Press related laws’ respectively as resource persons.
The participating journalists called upon the BPC authority for fixing minimum qualifications for journalists and issuing certificates to them to further upgrade standard of journalism.
Justice Ahmed agreed in principle with proposal of journalists for fixing qualifications for journalists, issuing certificates and counting their number and said that these steps, if taken, would also assist BPC to ensure welfare of the journalists of the country.
