A journalist and his family members came under attack by a group of identified miscreants at Khordasaptana para in Lalmonirhat town at round 5 pm on Monday, a day before of Eid.
The journalist, his parents, brother and two other family members were assaulted in the home. The miscreants’ gang vandalised furniture’s and looted mobile
phones, gold ornaments and other assets from the house on the period.
The journalist’s father and younger brother were injured critically were admitted to Lalmonirhat sadar hospital on the day, and they also re-attacked by the miscreants’ gang in the hospital on the day. A case was lodged accusing 20 persons with the Lalmonirhat sadar thana on Monday night but police yet to arrest any of them till Thursday noon.
The assaulted persons are the Daily Janakantha District Correspondent Jahangir Alam Shahin,45, his parents freedom fighter Abdus Salam,65, Joygunnesa,57, his younger brother lecturer of Aditmari Degree College Zakir Hossain Shamim, his wife Rebeka Sultana,25, and son Yaminul Jarif Joy,4,. Of them the journalist’s father and younger brother are under the treatment in Lalmonirhat sadar hospital.
Quoting the case reference police said, in a row of repairing of motorcycle between the journalist and the mechanics Ramzan Ali on Monday noon, the mechanics Ramzan Ali hired a gang of miscreants to attack on journalist’s family on Monday afternoon.
“I know all the identification of all the culprits who were involved attacking on us,” said the assaulted journalist Jahanguir Alam Shahin.
“All. The miscreants were possession with local made sharp weapons in their hands during the attack on us. All they are engaged in local politics of BNP politics, and all are residences at Surkimil Colony area in the town,” he said adding the miscreants’ looted different assets worth about Tk two lakh from the home.
The journalist and his family members alleged, police were not arresting the culprits due to unknown reason and they were moving freely in the town.
Contacting over mobile phone to the mechanics Ramzan Ali residence at Surkimil Colony area in the town said, police will investigate the entire matter and his isn’t interested talking regarding the matter with any reporter.
However the OC in Lalmonirhat sadar thana Mahfuzur Rahman said, police were conducting drive to arrest the culprits but they were fled away from their homes after the incident. Police must arrest all the culprits and they would be taken under the exemplary punishment as soon as possible, OC assured.
