Journalists staged demonstration in front of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Headquarters for the third consecutive day on Sunday protesting an “indecent summon” issued by the state-run anti graft body to two fellow newsmen over a corruption issue.
They also formed a human chain wearing black masks on their faces before the ACC head office in the capital’s Segunbagicha.
Crime Reporters Association Of Bangladesh (CRAB) organised the programme around 11:00am to press home their demands.
Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) President Abu Jafar Shurjo, General Secretary Sohel Haider and
Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) leaders, among others, participated in the demonstration programme.
The newsmen also threatened to go for tougher movement if the letters are not withdrawn soon.
Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) president Abu Jafar Shurjo made the announcement.
The demands include the ACC’s regret for issuance of the letter and to withdraw it.
Earlier on Wednesday, the journalists also staged demonstration in front of the ACC’s Head Office protesting the same incident.
On June 23, news portal Bangla Tribune published a news item over the alleged bribery of the ACC Director Khandaker Enamul Bachhir by the suspended DIG Mizanur Rahman.
The ACC sent letters to CRAB General Secretary Dipu Sarwar and Training and Information Technology Affairs Secretary Imran Hossain Sumon to appear before it for publishing news over the alleged bribery incident of its Director Khandaker Enamul Bachhir and DIG Mizanur Rahman.
The Commission, in the letter, also threatened them to take legal action for their noncompliance.
