Journos demand punishment to attackers on CUJ president

Journalists demanded judicial inquiry and exemplary punishment to the attackers of President of Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) Riaz Haider Chowdhury and its Joint Secretary Swarup Bhattcharjee.
The demand came up at a protest rally held in front of Chittagong Press Club with CUJ acting President Ratan Kanti Devashis in the chair.
The rally, conducted by CUJ General Secretary Mohammad Ali, was addressed, among others, by Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Tapan Chakroborti, its Executive Member Ashif Siraj, former Vice President Abu Taher Mohammad, CUJ leaders Sabur Shuvo, Uzzal Kanti Dhar, Mohammad Ali Pasha, Bishu Roy Chowdhury, Aninda Titu and Pritom Das.
The journalists’ leaders were injured when a group of miscreants allegedly beat up them at Jamal Khan in the city on November 15. CUJ president Riaz Haider Chowdhury is still undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital while Swarup Bhattacharjee was released after first aid.
Soon after the incident Kotwali thana police arrested two alleged attackers- Kaiser Hamid, 40 and Shakhawat Hossain, 41,- from the place of occurrence and recovered the mobile phone sets, wallets and other valuables, which were snatched away from the two journalists.
