Journalists of both electronic and print media yesterday staged countrywide rallies, processions and submitted memorandum to the authorities concerned demanding immediate announcement of ninth wage board to enhance salaries with other benefits.
“The unusual price hike of essentials is severely affecting the life of the media people due to pay redoubling of government officials, employees and other professionals,” Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), told a rally as the chief guest in
front of Jatiya Press Club here yesterday noon. Chaired by Shaban Mahmud, president of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), the rally was addressed, among others, by BFUJ secretary general Omar Faruque, DUJ general secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury, BFUJ joint secretary general Amiya Ghatak Pulack, DUJ leaders Noor-e-Jannat Akhter Sima, Akhter Hossain , Mahmudur Rahman Khokan and former DRU president Shakhawat Hossain Badsha.
