Journos can play role to reach legal aid services to poor

Speakers at a function here yesterday said the journalists could play vital role to reach the cost-free legal aid services and its activities to the extremely poor and the distressed people in grassroots to protect their fundamental rights.
“As the media men work at field level and they have the close relationship with the people including the marginalised ones in grass root level, they can contribute a lot to make the legal aid activities more effective and fruitful”, they said.
They made the comments while addressing a workshop on the role of the print and the electronic media in publicity of govt. legal aid services and its success organised by district legal aid committee at the conference room of district judge court of the town here on Monday night.
Chairman of the district Legal Aid Committee ( DLAC) and also district and sessions judge Rasheda Sultana presided over the function while Bicharak, Nari o Shishu Nirjatan Damon Tribunal Abdur Rahman, police super Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah, joint district judges Rezaul Karim and M. Kamal Hossain, additional district magistrate Kaisarul Islam and public prosecutor M. Shafiqur Rahman addressed the ceremony.
Journalists Gobinda Lal Das, K.M Reazul Hague, Ferdoush Jewel, Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman, Shamim-ul-Haque Shahin, Abedur Rahman Swapon, Shamim Al Shamya, SM Biplob Islam and Saiful Islam Prince also spoke at the function, among others.
