A local journalist sustained stab injuries in an attack by miscreants at Borobaria village in Chitalmari upazila on Monday.
The victim was identified as Shafiqul Islam Shafa, 45, local correspondent of the Daily Purbanchal and son of Muslim Ali Sheikh of the village.
Police and locals said Shafiqul came under the attack while he was going to the upazila headquarters from his house in the morning.
The miscreants hit him in the head with sticks and chopped him with sharp weapons indiscriminately, leaving him injured.
Critically injured, Shafiqul was admitted to Chitalmari Upazila Health Complex.
Victim’s father Muslim Ali filed a case against some unidentified people.
Officer-in-charge of Chitalmari Police Station Dilip Kumar Sarkar said on information, police rushed to the spot but miscreants managed to flee the scene before police reached the spot.
