UNB, Dhaka :The High Court on Monday permitted BNP chairperson’s adviser and journalist leader Shawkat Mahmud to go abroad for treatment. An HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice JBM Hassan passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Shawkat Mahmud.Talking to reporters, his lawyer Advocate Masud Rana said the HC bench granted permission to the journalist leader to go abroad for treatment but he cannot stay abroad for over 40 days.On July 18, Shawkat filed a petition with a lower court appealing for allowing him to go abroad for his treatment. However, the court rejected his petition. Later, he moved the High Court on July 28. After 10 months into his arrest, Shawkat Mahmud was released from jail on bail on June 22.
