Journo Shamsur Rahman’s death anniv observed

The 19th assassination anniversary of noted journalist Shamsur Rahman observed in Jashore yesterday.
Local journalists’ organizations, Jashore Press Club, the family and villagers of the deceased recalled him through elaborated programme on the day.
On July 16, 2000 Shamsur Rahman, a special correspondent of Dainik Janakantha and a stringer of BBC Bangla Service, was shot dead by unidentified assailants at his office at Daratana, the heart of the town. The incident took place at around 8:10pm on the day.
Shamsur Rahman was also a writer of several books.
The incident spurred movement particularly of the journalists in Jashore and also across the country.
Selina Akhter Lucky, wife of Shamsur Rahman, filed a case with the Kotwali police.
The Criminal Investigation Department, where the case was later shifted, submitted its charge sheet, accusing 16 people, five of whom were journalists, including Farazi Ajmal Hossain, special correspondent, Daily Ittefaq.
In 2005 the case was shifted to the Speedy Tribunal, Khulna.
