President of a faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Chief Reporter of Daily Sangram, Ruhul Amin Gazi was arrested on Wednesday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (media) Walid Hossain confirmed the matter to The New Nation.
He said there are two cases pending against Ruhul Amin Gazi under the Digital Security Act and Anti-State Act.
He was arrested following the issuance of warrants in two cases against him. He was arrested by the Hatirjheel police based on this warrant.
Officials of the Daily Sangram said that he was arrested from the office.
There are two cases were filed against Ruhul Amin Ghazi under the Digital Security Act. The court issued a warrant against him for not appearing in court as per the date in the case.
Earlier On December 12 last year, the Daily Sangram published a report calling Quader Mollah, who was executed for crimes against humanity, a ‘martyr’.
In protest, some youths took position in front of the office of Dainik Sangram on December 13 under the banner of Muktijuddha Mancha.
In the evening, they vandalized the office and locked the gate. They demanded the arrest of the editor and closure of the newspaper.
A day later, Daily Sangram editor Abul Asad and Chief Reporter Ruhul Amin Gazi were charged under the Digital Security Act. Freedom Fighter Commander Mohammad Afzal filed the case (Case No. 24) with Hatirjheel Police Station.
