Journo Obaidul Huq passes away

Chittagong, (UNB) – Eminent senior journalist of Chittagong M Obaidul Huq passed away at his residence in the port city early Monday. He was 87. Obaidul Huq, a former chief reporter of Dainik Azadi, breathed his last at his residence at Journalist Housing Society around 4:05 am. He had long been suffering form old-age complications. Obaidul Huq, a close companion of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is survived by five sons, two daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death. Shahidul Alam, former president of Chittagong Union of Journalists, said his first namaz-e-janaza was held at the Chittagong Press Club around 12:30 pm, while the second at Jamiatul Falah Mosque after Johr prayers. He will be buried at his family graveyard at Katirhat in Hathazari upazila after Asr prayers. Obaidul Huq who was also the president of Chittagong Press Club and Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) started his journalism career in 1962 from Dainik Azadi. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina condoled the death of Obaidul Huq. Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc, State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, BNP vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman, BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury attended the janaza and expressed their deep sympathies for his bereaved family members.
