Journo mugged in Jatrabari, 3 robbers held

A Senior Reporter of the news portal bdnews24.com was robbed of Tk 20,000 and assaulted by some unidentified miscreants in the city’s Jatrabari area on Wednesday morning.
The victim has been identified as Prokash Ranjan Biswas, 49, a Senior Court Correspondent. He took treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), police said.
Anisur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jatrabari Police Station, said, “Prokash came under attack after he boarded a microbus for going to court around 8:30am from Jatrabari area. The miscreants under the guise of the co-passengers blindfolded Proksah inside the microbus and beat him mercilessly with a hammer.”
They snatched Tk 20,000, which he collected from a friend for emergency purpose, and a mobile phone set from him, the police official said.
 “Cut and bruised all over, they dumped the journalist at Siddhirganj, Narayanganj,” the OC said. Police are looking into the matter with the highest priority, he said.
On Tuesday night, at least three robbers were arrested by law enforcing agencies during attempt to rob valuable goods and ornaments from some people in front of Nur Ali Community Center in Jatrabari area, the police official said.
The arrested men are Shamin Rahman, 28, Mohan Mia, 25, and Roni Hossain, the OC said.
Police recovered three swords, two machetes and iron sticks from their possession, he said.
They were sent to jail on court order, the OC said.
