Police have arrested a journalist of a private satellite television channel hours after his wife filed a case accusing him of torturing her.
The journalist has been identified as Atikur Rahman Purnia, a senior reporter of ATN News. He was picked up on Friday night after his wife Farzana Akhter Tushee lodged the complaint with Ramna Police Station in capital city.
Officer-in-Charge [OC] of Ramna Model Police Station Md Moshiur Rahman said, Atikur lives in a rented flat in the Maghbazar area.
“He was arrested based on the victim’s allegation
and police are looking into it”, the OC said.
Earlier on June 26, police arrested a journalist Rakibul Islam Mukul, News Editor of private television channel Gazi TV, in city’s Mirpur area after her wife Naznin Akhter Tonni, a senior reporter of Bengali daily Janakantha, filed a case accusing him of torturing her.
