Ekushey Padak recipient veteran journalist Habibur Rahman Milon is no more.
He breathed his last at Lab Aid Hospital in the city at around 2:30 am on Sunday. He was 78. He left behind his five daughters, one son and a host of relatives and well-wishers
to mourn his death. He was suffering from Kidney, Hepatitis, lung diseases and other complications.
Habibur Rahman was the Advisor Editor of the Daily Ittefaq. He was very prominent for writing a column Ghare Baire under pen name of Sandhani. He was also incumbent chairman of the Press Institute of Bangladesh [PIB].
His first Janaza was held at the residence at Eskaton at around 1:00 pm on Sunday. The second Janaza was held at the Jatiya Press Club premises after Johr prayer.
Before Janaza, President of Jatiya Press Club Md Shafiqur Rahman and General Secretray Md Quamrul Islam, BFUJ President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and Milon’s son Tahminur Rahman Sumon addressed the Janaza.
After Janaza, PM’s special assistant [media] Mahabubul Haq Shakil and PM’s Deputy Press Secretary Ashraful Alam Khokan placed wreaths on the coffin of the deceased.
Later, Jatiya Press Club, BFUJ, DUJ and other organizations placed wreaths on the coffin showing last respect to the late journalist. His body was taken to PIB and then to Ittefaq office.
The body of late journalist has been kept at the mortuary of BIRDEM. He will be buried at Shaheed Buddhijibi Graveyard at Mirpur today [Monday] after his daughter who lives in Australia returns.
President Abdul Hamid has expressed sorrow over the death of journalist Habibur Rahman Milon.
In a condolence message, the President said the country lost a dedicated journalist. He said the nation will remember his contribution to journalism.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also expressed profound shock at the death of Habibur Rahman Milon.
The PM, now in London, in a condolence message, recalled the contribution of Milon, a former president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists [BFUJ], to the development of journalism profession saying the nation has lost a guardian of the country’s media world at his death. She also recalled Milon’s active and valiant role in the movement protesting the murder of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, fight for democracy and freedom of speech during post-1975 period as well as establishing the spirit of the War of Liberation and building a progressive and secular Bangladesh.
Jatiya Sangsad Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Chief Whip have also expressed profound shock at the death of veteran Journalist Habibur Rahman Milon, said an official release here on Sunday.
