The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday sent the Daily Sangram Chief Reporter Ruhul Amin Gazi, who is also President of a faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), to the jail in a sedition case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Debdash Chandra Adhikary of the CMM Court passed the order rejecting his bail petition in the sedition case.
Hatirjheel Police Station police produced Ruhul Amin Gazi in the court on Thursday (yesterday). Earlier, police arrested him from his newspaper’s office on Wednesday evening.
On September 22, the CMM Court issued an arrest warrant against him after Abdur Rashid, Officer-in-Charge of the police station and Investigation Officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet against him and the daily’s editor Abul Asad on September 7.
Earlier, on December 13, last year, Freedom Fighter Commander Mohammad Afzal filed a case against the duo under the Digital Security Act.
The case was lodged over a report printed in the Sangram, a day earlier, on December 12 with the headline “Today is the sixth martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Abdul Quader Molla.”
