A local journalist has died reportedly after taking excessive alcohol in Bagha upazila.
The deceased is Selim Ahmed Bhandari, 34, Bagha upazila correspondent of local daily the Dainik Rajshahi Sangband and national daily the Dainik Jaijaidin, and son of late Samsul Haque Bhandari of Monigram village in the upazila. Officer-in-charge of Bagha Police Station Mohammad Mohsin Ali told UNB that he came to know that Selim took excessive liquor on Wednesday night and fell sick. He was taken to
Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where he died on Thursday night, he said, adding that they recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy. The OC also said they detained a local homeopathic practitioner, Masidul Karim, who allegedly sold spirit to Selim, also office secretary of Bagha Press Club and vice-president of Bagha Jatiya Sangbadik Sangstha, for interrogation. Meanwhile, victim’s wife Sonia Akhter alleged that Masudul killed Selim in a planned way after feeding him drinks laced with alcohol.
