Noted journalist Atiqul Alam, also senior member of Jatiya Press Club, breathed his last at the house of his father-in-law in Bogra Monday afternoon. He was 81.
Family sources said Atiqul Alam will be laid to eternal rest at Banani graveyard after the namaz-e-janaza at Maghbazar Kazi Office lane in city Tuesday.
Journalist Atiqul Alam started his career at Eastern Examiner in Chittagong. Later, he moved to Daily Unity, observed responsibilities of Dhaka bureau chief of Pakistan Times before the Liberation War. After the liberation, Atiqul Alam was the founder bureau chief Reuters in Dhaka and worked as Dhaka bureau chief of BBC.
He also observed responsibilities as Editor of a bangla daily, Arthaniti Pratidin. Jatiya Press Club president Shafiqur Rahman and general secretary Quamrul Islam Chowdhury expressed their shock over the death and condoled the bereaved family members.
