Speakers at a workshop urged journalists to make informative news so that the government can sense its successes and flaws to accelerate the pace of betterment of the people.
They expressed the views at the concluding session of a training programme titled “Sheikh Hasina’s 10 Initiatives and Development Journalism” in the auditorium of Press Institute, Bangladesh (PIB) in the city on Thursday.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha’s infotainment service organised the workshop in collaboration with ‘Amar Bari Amar Khamar (ABAK)’ project of Rural Development and Cooperatives Division of the LGRD and Cooperatives Ministry for the national news agency’s district correspondents. Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Rural Development and Cooperatives Division (RDCD) Secretary Md Rezaul Ahsan said that journalists should make positive news to get people inspired to work for changing their lives.
He said the ‘Amar Bari Amar Khamar (ABAK)’ project of the government is playing a role to change the fate of the people, adding that journalists can make informative reports on this project highlighting it’s the successes and weaknesses. Terming ABAK as a unique project that covers almost every part of the country, he said more than three crore people are involved in it to improve standard of their life.
Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Abul Kalam Azad said if anyone is really optimistic of changing his or her fate, that desire will definitely be fulfilled.
Journalists should contribute to the development of the people through presenting reports which are informative, positive and inspiring, said Abul Kalam Azad, who presided over the concluding session of the workshop.
Ahead of the Mujib Year, he sought everyone’s cordial support for materialising the dream of building “Sonar Bangla” as envisioned by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He asked the participants of the workshop to utilise the knowledge and experience they gathered from the workshop for the welfare of the people.
Praising Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said: “Our premier always thinks about the media people and that is why she constituted the Bangladesh Journalists’ Welfare Trust Fund to support them financially.”
