Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi termed journalists as watch towers for the politicians saying their appropriate role was crucial for democratic process.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop on journalists’ fellowship programme at the Roundtable Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters unity at Segunbagicha in the city on Wednesday.
Poriprekkhit, a non-government organisation working on journalism, organised the workshop in collaboration with Save the Children and C&A Foundation with a view to involve media in disaster-risk reduction programmes.

Director (Humanitarian) of Save the Children Mostaque Hossain, Chief Executive of Ekushey Television journalist Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Executive Director of Poriprekkhit Syed Borhan Kabir, General Secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity Raju Ahmed and Research Assistant of Poriprekkhit Shakila Yasmin Suchi and Manager Aayon Debnath took part in deliberations of the workshop.
“Our country can’t march ahead in the democratic process if the journalists can’t produce and publish reports independently. We (politicians) will commit repeated mistakes if the journalists can’t project the faults we have generally been committing,” said Rizvi, a former faculty of Harvard University.
