Journalists protest yellow journalism

Journalists of Dimla upazila in the district formed a human chain in the banner of Dimla press club and Dimla online press club at zero point intersection of the upazila town yesterday protesting the alleged yellow journalism by a section of people in the name of doing journalism.
Almost all journalists of the upazila joined the programme where a large number of journalists from the district town expressed solidarity.
Mazharul Islam Liton, president of Dimla Press Club in his speech mentioned names of the persons for doing this bad practice.
He alleged that those people particularly local Janokontho reporter Tahmon Huque Boby publishing false news misguiding his newspapers to tarnish the image of responsible people like the local lawmaker also freedom fighter Aftabuddin Sarker.
He further alleged that few days ago this man (Boby) came to the lawmaker with an application for getting his recommendation to exclude the names of some Jamaat-BNP men from some cases accused by police for arsoning vote centers assaulting presiding and polling officers on 5th January, 2014 jatiyo sangsad election.
As the lawmaker as a veteran freedom fighter refused to meet his demand, that journalist started to publish false and dishonouring news against him (lawmaker).
” We asked Boby to show proof and evidences in favour of his blame to get our whole hearted support but he failed,” Liton added.
For such bad practice, we are facing odd situations and various questions from people. We shall no more bear the blame of such irresponsible journalism, the journalist leaders in their speeches announced.
Asaduzzaman Tipu, a senior journalist from Nilphamari also local Daily Star correspondent, on behalf of districts’ journalists expressed solidarity with the programme and urged all concerned to follow ethics of journalism and relevant rules of the country.
At fag end of the programme, the journalist leaders handed over a memorandum to local UNO and sent a copy of it to head office of Jonokontho newspaper for taking action against their local correspondent after proper investigation.
