Journalists offer interfaith prayers for Bangabandhu

Members of the journalist community arranged a Sarbo Dharmio (interfaith) prayer meeting here seeking eternal peace of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman marking his 39th anniversary of martyrdom.
Apart from a large number of newsmen, members of the civil society and professional bodies took part in the prayer held at the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) here on Friday morning.
Alhaj Hafez Moulana Ziaul Hasan recited from the holy Quran, Engineer Manash Kumar Mitra from the holy Geeta, Father Benjamin Costa from the Bible and Kolyan Jyoti Thero from the Tripitaka.
After the recitation from the holy books, a special prayer was offered seeking the eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his family members and others assassinated on the fateful night of August 15, 1975. News presenter of Channel-i Sayeedur Rahman conducted the meeting.
At the outset of the congregation, a one minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the memory of Father of the Nation and the all time Greatest Bengalee Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Later, a documentary film on Bangabandhu and Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 was screened.
The interfaith prayer meeting is being held since 2008 with a view to establishing a non-communal Bangladesh as dreamt by Father of the Nation.
Among others, former industries minister Dilip Barua, Oikya NAP leader Pankaj Bhattacharjee, Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Abul Kalam Azad, former ambassadors SS Chakma and Mohiuddin Ahmed, former principal information officer Harun-ur Rashid, CEO of Bangladesh Foundation Monayem Sarker, former JPC President Hasan Shahriar, Daily Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamol Dutta, senior journalists Farid Hossain, Kashem Humayun and Ataur Rahman were present of the occasion.
