President of the National Press Club Farida Yasmin has strongly condemned the recent attack on journalists at Brahmanbaria and called on all journalists in the country to get united.
“The journalist community in the country needs to be united. This is because miscreants and fundamentalists take advantage of the prevailing division among journalists. From the thinking that attacking journalists will not bring any consequences they get the courage to attack journalists,” she said while addressing a views-exchange meeting at Brahmanbaria Press Club on Friday noon.
Hefazat-e-Islam activists and supporters allegedly carried out massive violence in Brahmanbaria from March 26 to 28 and attacked, vandalised and set fire to several public and private installations.
Jabed Rahim Bijan, general secretary of Brahmanbaria Press Club, described the attack to journalist leaders at Friday’s meeting. Riaz Uddin Jami, president of the press club, who was also allegedly attacked by Hefazat activists and supporters, gave details at that time.
While visiting the spot, Farida Yasmin reassured the journalists saying, “We are by the side of the entire journalist community in the country, including Brahmanbaria Press Club.”
Farida Yasmin was accompanied by Ilias Khan, general secretary of the National Press Club, and other members of the National Press Club.
