Journalist passes away

S M Zakaria Mahmud, a senior member and former Vice-President of Bagerhat Press Club and Bagerhat district based correspondent of (now defunct) the Bengali daily Amar Desh breathed his in Bagerhat Sadar Hospital in the early hours of Monday. He had been suffering from various complicated diseases for long. He was 67.
He left behind wife, one son, four daughters and a host of relatives, friends and admirers to mourn his death. He was a wise, courageous, prudent and intelligent journalist. He was well-behaved benevolent, amiable in nature and sophisticated gentleman in the true sense of the term all through his life. He started his journlism carrier in the year 1983 as a staff reporter of (now defunct) The Daily Dakkhin Bangla (published from Bagerhat). He also served the Dainik Purbanchal, a leading Bengali daily of South-western region as its Bagerhat bureau chief and the daily Banglabazar as its Bagerhat district based correspondent. After the publication of The Amar Desh he joined it and associated with it as Bagerhat district correspondent till his death. He was also associated with a number of online news medias.
On hearing the death of Zakaria Mahmud local journalists of both print and electronic medias and people belonging to other professions went to his local Muniganj resident to see him. At noon when the dead body of the late journalist was brought to Bagerhat Press Club its all the office-bearers and members paid rich tributes to him with the placing of floral wreaths on the dead body.
His Namaj-e-Janaza was held in the local Harikhali mosque premises after Zohor prayer. People from all walks of life attended the Janaja. He was buried in Sarai paublic graveyard.
