Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) -9 arrested listed drug dealer and alleged journalist Abul Kalam (38) and his associate Mithun Kumar Das (20) from Shahparan area of Sylhet along with more than one and a half thousand Yaba tablets. They were arrested from Nayagaon area of Sadipur-2 under Shahparan police station on Friday night.
The arrested Abul Kalam is the son of late Abdus Sobhan of Shahidabad village of Zakiganj police station of Sylhet and Mithun Kumar Das is the son of Tapan Kumar Das of Amurshid village of the same police station.
It is seen that the Facebook ID of the arrested Abul Kalam is that he is the president of the Sylhet district branch of the Jatiya Swechchhasebak Party and the Sylhet correspondent of the Daily Swadesh Pratidin. However, no mainstream journalist in Sylhet knows Kalam.
According to RAB, a group of RAB-9’s Sadar Company (Sadar Camp, Sylhet) raided the flat on the south side of the 2nd floor of Mother’s Shadow Villa on Borhan Uddin Mazar Road in Sadipur-2 area under Shahparan Police Station around 8:15 pm on Friday.
He arrested Mithun Kumar Dase. At that time, RAB seized 1,544 Yaba tablets from them.
RAB-9 commander Lt. Colonel Abu Musa said Shariful Islam (PSC, ASC), Major Mahfuzur Rahman and Additional Superintendent of Police Samiul Alam led the arrest operation.
