Bangladesh suffered a frustrating 4-0 defeat against higher ranked Jordan in their home match of the FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers in front of some 7,000 people in the audience at the floodlit Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Tuesday.
Bangladesh conceded a 5-0 defeat in their away match of the FIFA WC qualifiers against Asian champions Australia last week in Perth.
In their first meeting in international football against Bangladesh, the 91st in FIFA world ranking Jordan earned a comfortable victory over their lowly and 173rd ranked Bangladesh.
Striker Abdallah Deeb struck twice — in the 13th (penalty) and 56th minute, another forward Monther Abu Amara and Yaseen Bakheet netted the remaining goals in the 33rd and 58th minute respectively for Jordan, which dominated the first half by 2-0 goals.
Jordan started very aggressively, using their both flanks and created strong pressure over defensive Bangladesh, but Bangladesh made good raid over their mighty opponent after conceding the first goal from penalty.
Bangladesh made some good attempts toward Jordan but failed materialized any due to their shakiness.
Striker Jewel Rana came close to score twice both in the first half. Jewel Rana spoiled the first chance for unnecessary delay in shooting from right flank in the 30th minute and finally Ameli sent the ball wide.
Jewel Rana squandered the another chance in the 43rd minute, in one to one situation with Jordan goalie off a Ameli pas, but his placing shot toward empty net, narrowly missed target
Bangladesh goalie Rasel Mahumd, who replaced Shahidul Alam Sohel in the day’s match displayed a good job under the bar.
Abdallah Deeb put Jordan team ahead in the 14th minute of the match off a penalty shot. Jordan got the spot kick when Bangladesh defender Atikur Rahman Meshu was yellow carded for a handball and referee YU Hsun Ming directed for spot kick, which Abdallah Deeb converted successfully (1-0).
Forward Monther Abu Amara doubled the lead for Jordan in the 33rd minute by a powerful shot on a cut back off Forward Yaseen Bakheet from the danger zone (2-0).
IN the 56th minute, forward Abdullah Deeb scored the third goal for Jordan by a placing shot off a low cross from another forward Rajai Ayed Fadel from the left flank (2-0).
Just two minute later, Yaseen Bakheet sealed the fate of the match scoring the fourth goal for Jordan by close range placing shot (4-0).
Bangladesh plays their away match at Jordan on March 24 next year and they will play their home match against Australia on November 17 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
In the ongoing FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, Bangladesh conceded 1-3 goals defeat to Kyrgyzstan, played to a 1-1 draw against Tajikistan and conceded 0-5 goal defeat against world cupper and Asian champions Australia and remained at bottom in the five-team group with one point from four matches.
In the day’s other match, Australia were leading by 2-0 goals against hosts Tajikistan till 87th minute of the match.
