Joint workshop held by Bangladesh Coastguard and IMRF

Many casualties occur in both coastal areas and inland water route every year due to various natural disasters and accidents. With a view to completing the rescue process of these accident and disaster affected victims quickly and properly, a day long workshop titled ‘Mass Rescue Operations’ was held for the second time arranged jointly by the Bangladesh Coastguard and International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) in Orchard Suites hotel in Dhaka.
During the workshop, the experts emphasied on what should be done during the rescuing process in disaster time in their discussion. Besides, assuming imaginary disasterous situations, the activities of the agencies involved in the rescue operations were also discussed on the programme.
Deputy Director General of Bangladesh Coastguard Commodore Imdadul Haque inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest. The IMRF’s Maritime Month Rescue Specialist Mr. John Gil (Netherlands) and Mr. Paolo Fello (Portugal) conducted the workshop. In the workshop, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Disaster Management, Army, Navy, Air Force, Border Guard Bangladesh, BSMRMU, Fire Service and Directorate of Naval Transportation, Chittagong Port Authority, Mongla Port Authority, Piara Port Authorities, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, Bangladesh Marine Academy (Chittagong), Marine Fisheries Academy, navy, police, and 40 officers of Ansar-VDP also participated.
